How Much Do Family Photos Cost in Jacksonville?

If you have started looking for a Jacksonville family photographer, you may have noticed that pricing can vary quite a bit. One photographer may charge a few hundred dollars, while another may charge $1,200 or more. Some prices include every finished image, while others cover only the session itself.

So, how much should you expect to spend on family photos in Jacksonville?

In general, professional family photography in the Jacksonville area can range from approximately $200 for a short mini session to $1,000 or more for a longer custom experience. Most private family sessions fall somewhere between $500 and $1,500, depending on the photographer, session length, number of images, location, and level of service included.

Here is a closer look at what affects the cost and what you should consider before choosing a photographer.

What is the average cost of family photos in Jacksonville?

There is no single standard price because photographers structure their services in different ways. However, most family photography options fall into one of these general categories:

Mini sessions: approximately $250 to $400

Mini sessions are short sessions offered on specific dates at a location chosen by the photographer. They are usually scheduled one after another in 10 to 20 minute time slots and include a smaller number of edited images.

These can be a good choice if:

  • You need only a few updated photographs

  • Your children warm up quickly in front of the camera

  • You are comfortable working within a short, structured time frame

  • The selected date and location already work for your family

Because mini sessions move quickly, they may not be the best fit for every family. If your child needs time to settle in, you want several groupings, or you are hoping for a gallery with plenty of variety, a private session may serve you better.

Private family sessions: approximately $500 to $850

A private session gives your family more time and flexibility. These sessions commonly last between 30 and 60 minutes and may include anywhere from 10 images to a complete gallery. You can expect more of an experience than a photo session that includes more variety and story telling imagery.

They often allow time for:

  • The entire family together

  • Each parent with the children

  • Siblings together and individually

  • Traditional portraits

  • Playful, connected moments

  • A little breathing room if a child needs a break

Some photographers include a set number of images, while others provide the full edited gallery. Always check exactly what is included in the quoted price.

Extended family sessions: approximately $800 to $1,600 or more

Extended family sessions usually include grandparents, adult siblings, cousins, and several individual family units. Pricing is typically higher because these sessions require more planning, more group combinations, and significantly more editing.

The total cost may depend on the number of people participating. A session for eight family members will usually be priced differently from one involving 20 or 25 people.

Why do family photography prices vary so much?

When you hire a professional photographer, you are paying for much more than the time spent taking pictures.

Your session price may also reflect:

  • Planning and communication before the session

  • Help choosing a location

  • Wardrobe guidance or access to a styling service

  • Years of education and training

  • Professional cameras, lenses, backup equipment, and insurance

  • Travel and location fees

  • Time spent sorting and editing the gallery

  • Professional retouching

  • Gallery hosting and image storage

  • Years of experience working with children and families

A 60 minute session can represent many additional hours of work before and after your family ever steps in front of the camera.

Experience also matters. A photographer who knows how to work with an uncertain toddler, keep older children involved, adjust quickly to changing light, and guide parents without making the session feel stiff brings a different level of service than someone who is still building those skills.

What is actually included in the session price?

This is one of the most important questions to ask when comparing Jacksonville family photographers.

A low starting price does not always represent the final amount you will spend. Some photographers charge a session fee and sell digital images, prints, or collections separately. Others use an all inclusive model in which the session and finished digital gallery are bundled together.

Before booking, ask:

  • How many edited images are included?

  • Will I choose my images from a larger proofing gallery?

  • Can I purchase additional images or upgrade to the full gallery?

  • Are printing rights included?

  • Is professional retouching included?

  • Are there extra travel, permit, or location fees?

  • Is a retainer required to reserve the date?

  • What happens if the weather does not cooperate?

Knowing the complete price and process before booking makes it much easier to compare your options fairly.

How much do my Jacksonville family sessions cost?

I offer both shorter session options and full family sessions so families can choose the experience and number of images that fit what they need.

My Classic Family Session is $495 and includes approximately 30 minutes of photography and 20 edited digital images selected from a proofing gallery. It is important to note that this session is only offered on select weekdays and at select locations.

My Signature Family Session is $795 and includes approximately 50 to 60 minutes of photography and the full edited gallery, generally 60 to 85 images.

My Extended family sessions are for groups of 8 or more and includes 60-75 minutes of session time, and a full edited gallery of approximately 75-95 edited images.

I also offer mini sessions on a small number of select dates in both the Fall and early Spring. Pricing and availability vary by event. Extended family sessions are quoted according to the total number of participants and the groupings requested.

Every private family session includes guidance with location, timing, and wardrobe. During the session, I will gently direct everyone when needed, while also leaving room for the natural interactions that make your family feel like itself. I never overbook my calendar so I can offer my clients a custom and exclusive experience and this also allows me the opportunity to build in rain dates, which are very much needed in the North eastern Florida area.

Is a more expensive family photographer worth it?

That depends on what matters most to you. If you simply need one photograph for a holiday card, a mini session may be all you need. If you want a relaxed pace, multiple family combinations, individual portraits of the children, and a larger gallery that tells more of the story, investing in a private session will usually give you more variety.

Price is important, but it should not be the only factor. Look through several complete galleries, not only a photographer's social media highlights. Pay attention to skin tones, consistency, expressions, and how families interact. Read reviews and make sure you understand the photographer's communication style and process.

Most importantly, choose someone whose work feels like your family and whose approach will help everyone feel comfortable.
