When Is the Best Time of Year to Book Family Photos in North Eastern Florida?
A very common question I am often asked by clients is: “When’s the best time to book our photos?”
Living in Florida means we don’t get the traditional four seasons the way other places do. However, that doesn’t mean timing doesn’t matter. Light, weather, and even the way your family feels during certain times of year can all play a role in determining when you should schedule your annual family photo session.
Here’s a breakdown of what each season looks like for family sessions in Ponte Vedra, Nocatee, Jacksonville, and St. Augustine.
Spring (March–May)
Spring in North Florida is full of fresh greenery and comfortable weather. The humidity hasn’t hit its peak yet, and the evenings are mild enough to keep little ones happy. This is a wonderful time for families who love lush, vibrant backdrops.
Why Spring works:
Longer days = more golden hour sessions
Mild temperatures before the summer heat rolls in and Summer thunderstorms
Fresh, green scenery
Summer (June–August)
Florida summers are hot, but that doesn’t mean family photos are off the table. The trick is timing: sunrise and sunset are your best friends. I personally prefer sunrise sessions in the Summer because it is cooler, the light is beautiful and you avoid the threat of the imminent afternoon thunderstorm. Sunset is the next best option as the light is dreamy and the beaches will be calm and quiet.
Why Summer works:
Gorgeous, golden sunrises and sunsets
Perfect for beach-loving families
Longer school breaks make scheduling easier
Tip: Bring water, and dress in light, breathable fabrics.
Fall (September–November)
Fall is hands down one of the most popular times for family photos in Florida. The weather starts to cool slightly, the light gets softer and more golden, and many families use this time to prepare for holiday cards. For many clients, this is the time of year that they opt to document three family annually.
This is also when I host Fall Mini Sessions. These are shorter sessions designed for families who want a handful of updated photos without the full investment of a longer shoot.
Why Fall works:
Beautiful golden light
Cooler evenings (especially in October + November)
Perfect timing for holiday cards
Winter (December–February)
Our winters in Florida are mild compared to most places, which makes them an underrated, but amazing time for family photos. The cooler air makes cozy, layered outfits possible, and the beaches are often quieter. The sunsets are stunning with hues of pinks and blues.
Why Winter works:
Mild, comfortable weather
Quieter locations…especially at the beach
Unique wardrobe options and the option to add layers and textures. For example: sweaters, boots, and soft textures
So, When Should You Book?
The truth is, there isn’t a “wrong” time of year for family photos in Florida. It really depends on your family’s preferences:
Do you love beach sessions at sunrise? → Summer might be perfect.
Want those golden tones for your holiday cards? → Fall is your season.
Prefer quiet, cozy vibes? → Winter is underrated but beautiful.
Love greenery and mild weather? → Spring is your best bet.
No matter the season, I’ll guide you toward the right time of day and the best locations for your family.
