Before opening my photography business, I spent 15 years as a high school English teacher. While I truly love the work I do now, there are moments when I miss the classroom, especially teaching eleventh grade. It was my favorite year to teach, not just because of the literature, but because of the students themselves. That age is such a unique mix of confidence and vulnerability, independence and innocence.

So whenever I’m photographing a teen—whether it’s a Sweet 16, senior session, or graduation—I feel a little like I’m back in my element.

A Sweet 16 is a meaningful milestone, both for teens and for parents. Your daughter is standing right on the edge of adulthood, and this stage deserves to be documented thoughtfully. These sessions are about more than just a birthday—they’re about preserving her personality, her energy, and the lightness of this season before it inevitably shifts. This recent Sweet 16 session took place at the beach here in Northeast Florida, and it couldn’t have been a better fit. She was not only stunning, but incredibly kind and at ease in front of the camera.
