The Beauty of Fall Family Photos in Florida
Fall in Northeast Florida may not bring the crunchy leaves and heavy sweaters you see up north, but it has its own kind of magic. The golden light, the softer evenings, and the chance to slow down as the year winds down all make it one of the best times for family photos.
If you’ve been thinking about updating your family portraits, now is the perfect season to do it. Whether we’re walking along the Intracoastal at golden hour or exploring a quiet park surrounded by oaks, Fall sessions offer the kind of warmth and connection that only this time of year can bring.
Why Fall Is the Perfect Time for Family Photos
The light is unbeatable. The sun sets earlier, creating that soft, golden glow that makes every photo feel warm and full of life.
The weather cooperates. Cooler temperatures (finally!) mean kids are more comfortable and relaxed during sessions.
It’s the perfect time before the holidays. Your photos will be ready for holiday cards, gifts, or to hang on your walls before the season gets busy.
Outfits just work this time of year. Think earthy tones, soft textures, and layers that photograph beautifully in Florida’s natural light.
What to Expect During Your Fall Family Session
My approach to family photography is simple: I want to show you how beautiful your connection truly is. During your session, we’ll focus on the little moments. For example, the way your kids reach for your hand, the laughter that happens between poses or those quiet glances that say everything.
Every family session includes styling support and access to my client closet to help you feel confident and camera-ready. I’ll also guide you through what to expect before, during, and after the session so you can simply show up and enjoy the time together.
Looking for ideas on what to wear? I share all my favorite color palettes, outfit combos, and tips for keeping everyone comfortable (yet beautiful) in my full “What to Wear for Fall Family Sessions in Florida” guide — check it out here.
Favorite Fall Locations
Some of my favorite places for Fall family photos around Ponte Vedra, Jacksonville, and St. Augustine are spots that feel a little more earthy and golden this time of year — places with oak trees, winding trails, and that soft, late-day glow that makes everything feel peaceful and natural.
A few favorites:
Alpine Groves Park (Fruit Cove): A beautiful mix of moss-covered oaks, wooden boardwalks, and open grassy spaces — it’s perfect for that cozy, Fall feel.
Washington Oaks Gardens (Palm Coast): Known for its tree-lined paths and natural greenery, it has a quiet, timeless beauty that shines in the softer Fall light.
Guana Preserve (Ponte Vedra): Golden grass fields, open skies, and the most stunning sunsets — it’s one of my favorite spots for warm, glowy sessions.
Local oak-lined parks and preserves: Many smaller parks around St. Johns County offer that same golden light and peaceful backdrop that make Fall photos feel extra special.
Each of these locations has its own kind of magic, and together we’ll choose one that fits your family’s energy and the look you love most.
