Intimate Backyard Weddings | Ponte Vedra Beach Wedding Photographer
Not every wedding needs a grand venue or a guest list of hundreds. Some of the most meaningful celebrations happen right at home, surrounded by the people who matter most.
While family photography is the heart of my business, I also photograph a limited number of intimate weddings each year throughout Ponte Vedra Beach, St. Augustine, and Jacksonville. My focus is on small outdoor ceremonies with fewer than 30 guests, including backyard weddings, beachfront celebrations, and other personal settings.
This backyard wedding I photographed several years ago in New York is still one of my favorites. It's a perfect example of why I love smaller celebrations.
A Backyard Wedding Filled With Personal Details
We began the day at the Garden City Gazebo, where I photographed the couple with their family before heading back to their home for the ceremony.
The bride had put so much thought into making the celebration her own. She created wooden floral bouquets and transformed her backyard into a beautiful, rustic setting for their wedding.
But what stood out most wasn't the decorations. It was the connection between the couple, their children, and everyone who came to celebrate with them.
There was something so personal about the entire day. No elaborate production or packed schedule. Just a family coming together to celebrate two people getting married.
Why I Love Photographing Intimate Weddings
One of my favorite things about smaller weddings is that there's more time to enjoy the people around you.
Rather than rushing between locations and following a packed timeline, couples can focus on their ceremony, spend time with family, and have beautiful portraits together.
My wedding photography focuses on three things:
The ceremony: The exchange of vows, rings, first kiss, and those little moments in between.
Couples portraits: Natural, romantic photographs together, with gentle direction and room for genuine interaction.
Family photographs: A combination of traditional groupings and more relaxed moments with the people closest to you.
I photographed another intimate wedding where the weather didn't exactly cooperate. Despite the rain and a change in ceremony plans, the couple celebrated with just 13 guests, including their children. You can see more from that day in my post about a small outdoor wedding in the rain.
It's another reminder that the size of your wedding, or even the weather, doesn't determine how meaningful the day will be.

I also love the idea of scheduling couples portraits separately from the ceremony. Recently, I photographed a newly married couple in Neptune Beach who wanted romantic portraits together after their intimate wedding, along with a few family photographs.
With the shoreline, dunes, and soft, overcast skies as our backdrop, we had time to focus on the two of them without a traditional wedding timeline.
From the Proposal to the Wedding Day
One of the things I love most about photographing couples is being part of such meaningful moments in their lives.
I've photographed surprise proposals along the Northeast Florida coastline, including this romantic Neptune Beach proposal.
Whether it's the excitement of getting engaged, exchanging vows in front of family, or simply celebrating being newly married, I approach these sessions in much the same way.
A little direction when needed, plenty of natural interaction, and photographs that feel like you.

My coverage is designed for couples who want photographs of their ceremony, portraits together, and family photographs rather than traditional full-day wedding coverage.
I don't photograph indoor wedding venues, large weddings, or full-day receptions. Instead, I focus on smaller outdoor celebrations throughout Ponte Vedra Beach, Nocatee, Jacksonville, and St. Augustine.
