A Sunrise Beach Birthday Session | Natural Outdoor First Birthday Photos

With the exception of the Winter months, I always encourage my clients to schedule their child's first birthday session outdoors. There is nothing more beautiful than using nature as a backdrop and photographing outdoors allows me to capture your child exploring the world in a natural way.

To capture that soft and gorgeous golden light, I only schedule beach photos at sunset. I have recently been photographing families who have young children at sunrise. Because sunset is so late in the summer, this time of day seems to work better for toddlers. I will be the first to admit that getting up early enough to catch a sunrise at around 6 am is very difficult; however, the light at this time of day is absolutely breathtaking and I can't think of a better way to start your day than watching your child frolic and play in the sand while the sun is rising.  

I recently photographed this adorable little girl to capture her first birthday photos.  Mom told me she prefers images that are prop free, natural and relaxed.  She came to the right place because I am not a prop driven photographer and my goal is to capture timeless images that can hang on your walls for years to come. 

Mom chose a beach location for her daughter's portraits because her little girl absolutely loves the sand and water. During the session, little Miss A, played in the water and got completely sandy and messy, which I love; In fact, my favorite images are the ones in which you can see those specks of sands on her hands, feet and even face. Mom was smart and brought along a few outfit changes so that we could change her out of her wet clothes and capture her in different locations on the beach. I always tell my clients that they don't need to stress about a session with me. I want your child to run, play, laugh and be silly during a session.  Yes, I will still capture a few images of your child sitting and smiling, but most of your images in your gallery will be candid and natural captures of your child's personality at this moment in time.
