A Secret Proposal at the Bluff | Suffolk County Engagement Photographer

When I spoke to this particular client via phone in early July about a proposal session, I knew that this session was going to be really special and I was both elated and honored to be a part of it. He really wanted to keep this plan a secret and had told no one, with the exception of me, about his plans. To avoid arousing her suspicion, his plan was to ask her to marry him on his birthday. I thought this was a genius idea, as no girl would ever suspect this momentous occasion to occur on her boyfriend’s birthday. It also was super romantic.

During our initial phone consult, he had a few ideas on location and I helped him to narrow it down to the site at which he planned to pop the question. There are a lot of things to consider when planning a secret proposal. You have to make sure that the location is one that will not arouse suspicion and is one that is likely for you to visit together. There are also other things to consider and I go over all of these details during the pre proposal meeting that I schedule with each and every client who books a proposal session.

My client and I met exactly one week before the proposal at the location site to come up with a plan for the big day. During this meeting, we chose the exact spot at which he would propose, how they should be positioned and where I would be. We created a rain date and backup plan in the event of inclement weather.

I always arrive early to these sessions so that I can do a quick once over of the location and assess the situation. On the day of the engagement, when I got to the site, it was high tide. We had to do a quick change of the specific spot at which he would ask her to marry him, which was about 50 feet away from the original location. A quick text set the new plan in motion.

When the couple arrived, I had to hide in the bushes to avoid being seen by the girlfriend. The people at the location were eyeballing me rather suspiciously, but I didn’t mind because I was about to capture a magical moment. When he got down on one knee to ask the big question, her shock and joy was palpable. I clicked away and captured all of those beautiful emotions. I am not going to lie; I was tearing up as well because like I said, I am a real sap.

Afterwards, I took some engagement photos on what I can only describe as an epic night. This couple was awesome and was willing to get right in the water for some stunning images that capture the gorgeous sunset behind them. We were able to get photos in a wide array of locations. There is so much love between them and it shines through in every photo.

The session went by so quickly and I had so much fun capturing this adorable couple. I say this sincerely, they truly are the sweetest couple I have ever met. They will be getting married in June of 2022 and the venue has already been booked. I know that this lovely couple will have a lifetime of love and happiness together. Here are some of my favorites from the session.
