In Home Lifestyle Family Photos | Huntington Newborn Photographer

Although most people schedule a baby’s first photo session shortly after birth, this is not the only time one can schedule a newborn photo session. You can schedule a photo session of your new baby whenever you feel most comfortable doing so. If you are open to a more relaxed approach to newborn photos, you can schedule a session at any point within those first six months.

A great alternative to the newborn photo session is an in home family session at around the three month mark. Typically, moms feel better at this stage, a baby’s personality is really starting to shine through and you have a better sense of the feeding and sleeping patterns of your little one. While a session at this stage can’t include the propped and posed type of newborn images, there are plenty of opportunities for family photos and beautiful portraits of your new baby.

I always love in home session for multiple reasons. Families tend to be the most at ease and relaxed in their own homes and this is especially true of families with toddlers. The home provides a safe and secure environment for the toddler and allows for multiple breaks throughout the session.

The in home family session also allows for the most natural and authentic images of your family. Your home is a unique backdrop and capturing your family there is a way to document and preserve the memories of the experiences you share as a family. Plus, when everyone is at ease and relaxed, it allows for more connected imagery.

I recently captured this sweet family. They recently welcomed baby number two to the family and now that he was about four months old, they were ready to capture some updated family photos. Mom wanted a more natural and unposed look to her photos, which is exactly my goal for these sessions. Although I always sneak in one or two of those all eyes on camera images, I would much rather see you connect with each other during the session.

It was a warm and gorgeous May morning on the day of this session, so while Mom dressed and fed the baby, I started the session by capturing images of big sister playing in the yard with her dad. I love images that capture the essence ad nature of childhood and there nothing that says childhood like playing on a swing.

Afterwards, I shifted inside to capture some pics of mom with baby in the nursery. I absolutely love these sweet images of this baby boy and his mama. I also made sure to capture some portraits of the baby during this time. Dad and big sister snuck in for a few captures and then we made our way outside again for some more interactive outdoor photos. These were a lot of fun to capture.

It was a great morning and I just love their collection of images. Here are some of my favorites from the day.
