Moms, Please Get into the Photos with Your Kids

I have a lot of clients who initially intend to have photos taken of their children alone. I always encourage parents to get into photos with their kids. I especially feel this away about moms. I am a photographer and a mom and I can tell you that although I am an integral part of my girls’ life, there are very few photos of me with them. Most moms are the documentarian of the household, which means we often do not get into the photos with our children. A holiday portrait session is the perfect excuse to finally have those photos with your children taken. You already will be present at the session, so why not step into a few images with the kids? You will never regret doing so and your kids will thank you for it.

This recent client booked a last minute session with me late into the season. Her husband wouldn’t be able to make the photo session, but I encouraged her to participate in the session anyway. I was so impressed by this mom because she was able to coordinate and plan her family’s wardrobe using Style and Select and she managed to get this all together in less than a week’s time. One of the reasons why I subscribe to Style and Select is for this very reason. It truly makes styling your family a breeze.

We originally had this session scheduled for sunset, but the weather was not going to cooperate so we moved the session to early in the morning. We were able to fit this session in just before the rain rolled in. We were also fortunate because the weather was mild enough for the session. It can be really cold in New York in November, but we have been having a very mild Fall so far and I am very grateful for the weather.

This session was scheduled at one my favorite Fall locations that woks very well with children. It allows a gorgeous backdrop for both posed and more natural and relaxed imagery. These kids were amazing. They are not only adorable, but super polite and cooperative. There was literally not a tear shed throughout the session and they lasted a full hour in the 50 degree weather having fun and allowing me to capture them doing so.

I just love this collection of images. Here are some of my favorites from the day.
