The Final Days of Summer | Huntington Family Photographer

I swear…I feel as though I blinked my eyes and it is now the end of August. It has been an amazing Summer. The weather has been gorgeous. I traveled with my family to various New England locations. Best of all, I was able to photograph some former clients and meet new ones.

I recently met and photographed this gorgeous family, who traveled from Huntington for a session with me on the beach. They booked the session to commemorate their youngest son’s first birthday, but they also wanted family photos. They came to the right place because family photos are my specialty.

First birthday photos do not have to be staged and propped. My approach to portrait photography is to capture the evolving dynamic that exits within your family. It is important to capture all of those details of a one year old’s personality. An outdoor location is the perfect location to do so because one year olds are on the go. To ask them to sit still on a set doesn’t really show much of their unique personality. It is also a good idea t0 schedule the birthday photo session outdoors because it allows you the opportunity to have photos of you taken with your child.

I just loved every second of working with this family. Each and every one of them was a delight in their own way. The children all have vibrant personalities. Older sister is a sweetheart. She is so nurturing and caring to her younger brothers, which is something so heartwarming to capture. Big brother is funny beyond belief. He had me laughing throughout most of the session. The birthday boy is active and on the go with a smile that was contagious.

Mom dressed the family in a tan and blue combo, which was gorgeous for a beach sunset session. We had a cloudy evening so the blue hues really make the images pop and give vibrance to the photos.

As always, I try to get all of the posed captures out of the way first so that we have time for more connected and interactive images. I always like to leave room at the end of the session to play in the ocean waves. This time of year the water is so warm and it taking a quick dip in the water is often a welcome relief from the hot and humid evenings we have been experiencing here in Long Beach, New York.

My time with this family flew by and I have so many amazing captures from the evening. Here are a few of my favorites.
