Surprise Proposal at Macari Vineyards | Long Island Vineyard Engagement Photographer

It is always a true honor to be asked to photograph a surprise proposal. Not only does photographing this type of engagement session require the client to have faith in my ability to capture the moment, but he must also depend on my reliability during what is amongst the most intimate and joyous occasions that one can celebrate in life.

When I was contacted a few months ago by the groom to be, I knew that this engagement session was going to be really special and I was elated to be a part of it. With the help of his brother, the groom concocted a stellar plan to propose to his girlfriend at one of the best locations in the Long Island Region. The groom was planning his top secret proposal at Macari Vineyards in Mattituck. I can’t think of a better place to start the journey to marriage together.

Although I have never proposed to anyone, I understand how nerve wracking planning such a momentous occasion must be. My first priority for this type of session is to put the groom to be at ease and help him to feel confident in my ability to capture the moment and I also want him to feel comfortable with me as well. To do so, I always schedule a meeting with my client at the place fo the proposal so that we can get a plan together that will ensure that I can get unobstructed images of the couple during the proposal. It also allows us to come up with a back up plan to cover any eventuality that might occur. The pre session meeting for this session was the day before the proposal during which time I met with the groom to be, his brother, and one of Macari’s event coordinators. Together they created a romantic and fool proof plan to completely surprise his girlfriend.

The plan was that he and his girlfriend were scheduled for a private tasting and secret tour of the vineyard, during which time they would be driven to a private location on the vineyard located on the bluff over looking the Long Island Sound. When I saw the location, I was swooning because it was beyond gorgeous and there were so many picturesque locations that we could use afterwards for photos.

When the big moment finally came, the plan was a success and his girlfriend was completely shocked. After the proposal, we did an engagement mini session using some of the gorgeous locations on site at the vineyard and ended the session indoors in the private barrel cellar, where I got my favorite images from the day.

The session went by so quickly and I had so much fun capturing this adorable couple. I say this sincerely, they truly are the sweetest couple I have ever met. I know that this lovely couple will have a lifetime of love and happiness together. Here are some of my favorites from the session.
